Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Muscat

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is one of the finest architecture in the world.

The Mosque with its high ceiling ,Quran inscriptions on the walls, Book-shelves and Stained-Glass windows are all kaleidoscopic.

It has a beautiful and colourful Iranian carpet which is made of a single piece of cloth which covers the whole prayer hall. This is said to be the biggest carpet in the world.

There are separate Prayer halls for men and Women. In the outer pathways, there are smaller sections of architectural wonders inspired by different parts of the World.
There is a section with white marble architecture which is clearly inspired by Taj Mahal.

The Mosque has several Swarovski Crystal Chandeliers which is a wonder to watch. There are more than 30 chandeliers in the men prayer hall.

The Chandelier at the centre of the men prayer hall is the most beautiful and the biggest one.

The wooden doors are engraved beautifully to catch one's eye. And most of all, it's the height of the ceiling that makes your heart skip a beat and you feel like a minuscule standing under it.

I think, that is what all religious worshipping places are all about.

I am living in Muscat for the past 6 months. It feels like living in our own country surrounded by mallus,marathis,gujarathis,punjabis...all at the same time.
But, I also feel that we expats fail to interact with locals as we are satisfied with our own circle of people. This is a bad side-effect of having our people all around. Sometimes, it feels like we are walking on the road of chennai (of course, with less traffic!!!)
U can manage with English as most of the locals speak English or Hindi. Even one taxi driver put on Hindi songs for us as soon as we get into his cab.
In addition to seashore, mountains we can also see desert sand everywhere. It's really wonderful to see sea and desert in a single country.
